Got My Cryx Force Primed and Ready!

Primed dark grey and ready for some painting, hope to start in the next few days. Still have to choose which one to start with first, any ideas on that? Well, here is a couple primer shots of progress since as you know, if there are no pics, then there is no proof.

Got my Battlebox today!

Let the construction begin! Well, I am very excited to have my Cryx Battlebox and some other goodies come in the mail today, and of course I got to work on them at the first available moment. First off, let me say that I really like these mini's! Easy to build, easily magnetized(which my Slayer is fully magnetized now), and very well detailed. My only complaint, is very pronounced mold lines. If you have built a few kits from any manufacturer, then it shouldn't be a problem to remove, just time consuming. Now with that as my only complaint, all I can say is WOW!!! After flipping through the MKII rulebook and the Cryx Faction Deck, and the Cryx Faction Book at my LGS, I can say that I can't wait to get painting and then get them on the gaming table.
As it turns out, the two better hobby stores in my area(Books, Comics, and Things), each have a Press-Ganger that runs games on the first Saturday of each month. Looks like I made an excellent choice in switching up to Privateer Press games. More to come this weekend after I get some more time to bust out some new mini's and read the rulebook fully, but for now here are some early WIP pics.

Well I pulled the trigger.....

And bought the Warmachine MKII rulebook, Cryx Faction Deck, and the Cryx Battle Box! Can't wait till they arrive, so I can get to work on them. My LGS has gaming for Warmachine one Saturday a month too, so I am going to see if I can be ready for the first Saturday in February.

I am still thinking of how to divide up my remaining Marines to sell on ebay, most likely unit by unit, watch for the post on that soon.

Black Templars Sold...

Well, the Black Templars are sold, shipping out soon. Still have the Crimson Fists to sell, and I will be putting them back on ebay soon, guess I will break up the group and sell them in smaller batches. Hopefully I get more bites that way.
I will be finishing up the painting on my Skulltaker and squad of Bloodletters and selling them too, so if interested drop me a line before I put them on ebay.

WARMACHINE here I come!!! I have decided to go away from 40K and try something new, maybe GW will get their stuff together some time and I will come back to it, but as for now, they lost a customer. I like the games and the story line of 40K and Fantasy, just don't like spending hundreds of hundreds of dollars to get my gaming and modeling fix. If they come out with a Kill Team game I will be all over it, but I doubt it as that would encourage people to buy less "plastic crack", and they can't have that now can they. Well, I don't want to turn this into a rant or anything, just going with a wallet friendly, skirmish based game for now. Hit me up if interested in my Marines or Demons, and I will put up links to my ebay listings as soon as I get them listed.

Thanks,

Contemplating Warmachine????

Been looking a lot at WARMACHINE from Privateer Press lately, thinking about dropping 40K all together and going full on into a new game system. Like the look of the models, the price is better, the amount of models required speeds up painting time and gets you on the table sooner, the books are far superior with more content and totally full color, i love the cards that are used for quick reference, the range of models and options is huge, and now they are releasing more and more plastic kits for more options with less price and greater ease of building. Come to think of it, GW is losing out to Privateer Press in almost all categories. I will have to see if my ebay sales take, and then decide if getting out of 40K is for me, but as it is looking, I will at the very least give WARMACHINE a try. I can pick up a couple of Battlebox sets on the cheap and download the starter rules for free.

Give me some opinions on switching over, pros and cons.

Mech Black Templars, 1500 pts.

Here is the list I have decided on for 1500 points, and eventually scaling up to 1750- 1850 points. Let me know what you think, or any tips for playing the list or for the construction and painting of my Declates Crusade Force, need all the help I can get.

Mech Black Templars, 1500 pts.

HQ:
Marshal: 2x Lightning Claws, Iron Halo, Melta Bombs, Frags,-- 136
Emperor's Champion – 140

Troops:
Crusader Squad (6 initiates; 3 neophyte): Melta, PF, and Rhino w/ Smoke and EA -- 209
Crusader Squad (7 initiates; 2 neophyte): Melta, PF, and Rhino w/ Smoke and EA -- 215
Crusader Squad (8 initiates): Plas Gun, PF, and Rhino w/ Smoke and EA -- 207

Land Speeder w/ Multi melta and Heavy flamer – 75

Heavy Support:
Predator w/ Autocannon and lascannon sponsons, EA, Smoke -- 133
Predator w/ Autocannon and lascannon sponsons, EA, Smoke – 133

Total: 1496 pts.

Still need to purchase:
Bits for Marshal
1 Rhino
2 Predators
and possibly a new Ven Dread to replace my old Dread

Work in progress

Got my mini's organized and started doing some upgrades on my Crimson Fists Rhino, notably the Tac Arrow on top and the white shield on the front were the Maltese Cross will go, and some chiped paint effect, and some more weathering to come after decals are applied. I also worked up my list, and realized, i need money! Just to get to 1500 points I will need a Rhino, 2 Predators, some bits to make my Marshal, and would like to get the new Ven Dread in plastic, but I can use my current CF Dread for now. Looks like I need to come up with around $175.00 to complete. I think I am going to finish my Skulltaker and Bloodletters, and ebay them along with some old High elves that I have, might get 100-150 bucks for it all, just have to see what I got that I need to get rid of and get some serious painting going on too. Anyways here is a pic of my work this morning, not much, but gotta start somewhere.

Working on a few 1/72 scale WWI planes for Canvas Eagles too. Time to get back at it, and I will post up the new list later as well.

Took some time off...

Now I can focus again, I hope. Well, I have decided to run just my Templars, and to paint up the Demons and sell them. I have gotten quite a few things ready to incorporate into the Declates Crusade force recently. I dug up my old Crimson Fist Marines and started adding here and there and this is what I came up with.

E. Champ
Castellan
Dread
7x Ini.,2x Neo Crusader Squad w/ BP/CCW, Melta and Power Fist
7x Ini., 3x Neo Crusader Squad w/ BP/CCW, Melta and Power Fist
10x Ini. Crusader Squad w/ Bolters, Plasma Gun and Power Fist
2x Rhinos
2x Drop Pods, 1 (is still in the box)
2x Land Speeder Tornados, w/ MM and HF, (1 is still in the box)

Now to make a list, think I am gonna go Mech rather than Drop, I just like tanks too much! Once I have a solid list for 1500 pts., I will know what else to buy, probably some Tri-Las Preds would be good. Well, off to write a list, and plan my army build, so I can get it done sometime before Christmas.

Back to my Black Templars...

Wow, I have been so uninspired and extremely unmotivated of late, time to bust free of my laziness! I am putting the Daemons on the back burner, and getting back to my Templars, yes, I have inspiration to work on them again! I haven't broke out the paintbrush yet, but I have been working on some army lists for 1500 pts. Once I get to that level and get a few test games in, I am going to try and head down to Indy and get a game in with some of my fellow Indy Gamers. On to the list.

1500 pt Drop Templars

HQ:
Emperor's Champion w/ AAC 140 pts

Elite:
Dread, MM, HF, EA, Smoke, Drop Pod 168 pts
Dread, MM, HF, EA, Smoke, Drop Pod 168 pts

Crusader Squad 7xI, 3xN, PF, MG, BP&CCW, Drop Pod w/ Deathwind 217 pts

Land Speeder w/ MM, HF 75 pts

Total: 1498 pts.

I took the Quiz, and it is dead on!

You are a d20: You are a ruthless warrior. Thinking is for idiots and nerds. Doing things is what gets things done. You are the type who stabs now, and then asks questions later. Much later. And it usually involves a priest. For you, the best defense is a good offense, and the best offense usually involves burning the whole place to the ground -- at least twice. You are a whirlwind of destruction, composed of rash decisions and reckless actions. Put briefly, you are a danger to yourself and others. Good thing nobody ever listens to you.

Got some red on the Bloodletters...

Using this first unit to see what shades of red and which washes I want to use army wide. Now that I think about it though, I may just use all different kinds to create some difference in my models. What I really want, is the recipe that GW used on the new Daemon Prince!

That is the deep dark red that I am shooting for, but I am not sure if I can match it, and I know I can't paint that clean and sharp yet, but it is good to have goals.

Anyways, here is my progress on the Bloodletters,

Basecoat is done, now to get some RED on em'

Here we go, got the models all cleaned up, gaps filled on the heads, sand on the bases, and primed and ready for painting. I hope to have this unit finished by month's end to keep me on track with the, Call Of Chaos MKIV painting challenge, on The B&C that I have entered. I have pledged that I will complete, 2 units, and 1 HQ by July 31st. I haven't choosen my next unit yet, but for costs sake, it will probably be either Bloodletters, or a box of Chaos Hounds to use as Flesh Hounds of Khorne(much cheaper than the metal flesh hounds). Then for my HQ I will either use my Skulltaker, or perhaps get a Herald on Bloodcrusher model, haven't decided yet. In any case, as long as I complete one unit a month, I will be on track will the challenge, and well on my way to getting my Khorne Army built up to a decent size force. Well, thats about it for now, here is a couple of pics of my progress.

Construction update on Bloodletters

Well, I have gotten all of the Bloodletters assembled, just a few mold lines to tidy up, and some putty work to fill gaps on the heads. (see pics below)I was surprised at how fast these guys went together, usually takes me longer to assemble a squad, however, I wasn't pleased with the amount of mold lines or the notorious gap on the head. It can be overcame easily enough though, just takes patients, and a good knife and files.

Should be able to get some paint on these guys within a week or so, less time if family life is calm over the next couple of days, and if I can decide on a scheme for the bases. I was looking at using some resin bases, but I need to keep costs down, or the Wife will get annoyed. (can't have that!) I am open to ideas if anyone has one for me, I was considering a burnt out wasteland, with a possible smattering of some light snow on it. Let me know what you think. I also am in the process of creating some Army Lists for 500, 750, and 1000 points, should be posted up in the next couple days for review and C&C. More to follow soon, thanks.

Progress on the Bloodletters....

Getting some work done on them, but it is going slow, back pain is keeping me from being able to work for more than 30 minutes at a time. I have found though, that there is a small gap on the heads where the face attaches to the head that will require some gap filling, but not to bad of a gap to fill. I did some checking on resin bases for my new army, but I have decided to just go with a scheme of my own creation. Keeps things from being more expensive than need be, seeing as 1 bloodcrusher costs $30.00, and will let me create a matching display board and gaming table so much easier.
Well here is the pics of progress,

More to come soon, along with some initial army lists too.

Unboxing the Bloodletters...

Here we go, time for some carnage at last. First things first, this is the begining of my Mono Khorne Daemon army, and where better to start than with Bloodletters.
I also have a in progress Skulltaker as an HQ choice in smaller games when a Bloodthirster would be a point sink. Soon I will work out some army lists for 500, 750, 1000, 1500, and 1750, so I can plan out where I am going to go with this army. Two things are for sure, I definitely want to use plastic Chaos Hounds for Flesh Hounds and the Forgeworld Daemon Prince is too Bad-Ass to ignore, even with his huge price tag.

Now on to the unboxing of the core of my army. First, the box is just cool looking, and gives some good detail shots to follow if you are unsure of what your final product may look like. Ok, now on to the instruction sheet. Good pictures and definitely shows where the parts go, but be sure to test fit the different heads with some of the weapon poses to ensure clearance between the Hellblade and horns on some of the heads. Also, no paint reference, so you will need to check the internet for paint choices or just be creative and create your own scheme. I am using an article out of White Dwarf USA #361 March 2010, as a base to get to my final scheme, which will produce a very dark and gritty red. The article can be found on page 82 and shows how the Eavy Metal team painted the very dark red on the Chaos Lords Juggernaut.

Now the Goodies, the sprues themselves. Everything was present on the sprue and molded fairly well. There is a couple issues though, some of the Hellblades are very warped and will need bent back into position. The pictures below shows what I mean.
There isn't any bitz left over really, so no extras for converting or kit bashing, but the price is considerably less, at only $22.00 retail it is great compared to some of the more expensive squads, like Space Marines. Also, in the box there is supposed to be bases for use in either Warhammer Fantasy or in 40K, all I got was 10 25mm square bases, and for some reason, 10 20mm square bases. WTF? Someone made a goof, but no worries, this is why we should all be saving bits from all of our kits. So, luckily i have plenty of extra 25mm round bases and overcame this small problem, if you don't have the correct bases, I suggest calling customer service and seeing what they can do for you, outside of that, guess you'll have to make a purchase for the correct base from GW, or a Bitz store, or some fancy resin base company or something along those lines. (wish I had some extra cash, resin bases would be awesome!)

Well, I have clipped all the parts free of the sprue and organized them for ease of production and to keep from losing parts as I build each Bloodletter. I know, kind of anal, and neat freakish, but it works for me. I have assembled one of the Letters', and I must say that, so far, these guys go together superbly. Although, during my research on these guys, people have stated that there is a gap between the head and face after assembled, that will require some putty work to fill in the gap. We will see soon if that is correct, but on the champion head that I used on the first one, no gap. I also recommend leaving these guys off of their bases for ease of painting, as they are hunched over quite a bit and the base will block some brush angles.

Here is a couple of pics of the first one assembled.

Well, that is all for my initial unboxing and and test fitting, more to come as I get started on this awesomely brutal close combat army.

Game Night, Canvas Eagles

Still have quite a bit of work to do on some models, so we end up having to proxy a few aircraft, but it gets the job done so we can play right away. The Fokker F.1 Triplane, Sopwith Camel and Sopwith Snipe are all mine, and the Albatross model is my Dad's(he isn't into painting as much as he is gaming, guess I am the painter in the family)
