April Update #2

Finally got around to putting up some pics of progress. Finished my Marauder, started work on both the Juggernaut and the Destroyer, and I completed my Warcaster, Prime Sorscha. There are a couple spots I am unhappy with on Sorscha, mainly the eyes and face, I tried for a blueish glowing effect and it is not to noticeable or defined. All in all though, I am pleased with my progress. C&C welcome.

April update....

Well, I have gotten all of my Khador assembled and primed now. Later tonight I will post again after I work on my Marauder some more, and to give a review of a new primer that I have just tried out. Not much else going on of late, no games unfortunately, my Dad and I decided to play some Squad Leader(an old Avalon Hill board game) instead. I have been on Vacation from work this week, and with some half decent weather, wife and kids have kept me busy, but I will make some time to paint tonight.

More to come soon,

Here is an update on my KHADOR!

Still very much under construction and in desperate need of painting, I give you my Khador Battle Box, a Marauder, and a unit of Widowmakers.

I have gotten in 7 games already and learned a lot in just one day of gaming. I think my next purchase is going to be pButcher, and hopefully a full unit of Winterguard Infantry with Kovnik Joe, but we will have to see how funds go. As for painting, if you notice the scheme used on the Marauder, I have chosen to go with a white wash snow camo scheme. I still have quite a bit of weathering to do on this model, but I am aiming for the look of the Extreme Destroyer's scheme in the FOW Khador book. This will go on all of my Jacks' and I am still deciding on the colors for my Casters and my Infantry, but it will tie in very well. For the bases, i have some snow effects, dead/winter grass flock, and some Highland Tuft from Army Painter along with some razor wire, to create a snowy blasted wasteland.

Well, that is all for now, back to work on my Khador I go.

Got my first games in!!!!!

Alright, got some games in with my Brother at out LGS this weekend! Sorry no pics, but I forgot to snap them in the swirling midst of melee. Well, my Bro, was absolutely floored by my birthday gift to him! I gave him basically a complete start up into the game with a fully painted Cryx battle box, MK II rulebook, tokens and templates, tape measure, Sabol Platoon case loaded with foam, MK II Cryx faction deck and a marker for checking damage off. And what did I get for this? He beat me in our first 3 games in a row!!!!! LMAO! But I came back with a vengence with my Khador and tied up the score. We then found a couple of Hordes players to throw down with, one Circle player and a Skorne player. My Bro, took on the Circle player who was running some sort of eKaya list, not sure what it was, but between his feat and Crippling Grasp, he locked him down and forced him to give up before he was totally annihilated. I choose to take on the Skorne player running with pMorgul, a Titan Gladiator, a Cyclops, and a unit of Cataphract, and a solo that was incorporeal(no clue who it was). I ran my battle box plus a unit of Widowmakers. I got the jump on him and almost took out his Titan in one go with my Juggernaut on my feat turn, then he started dropping my Widowmakers down, and then I thought I had lost. He had feated so I could not use my focus and I was too close to him for comfort. I ended up camping focus and trying to put terrain between us, but he caught me anyways! Thanks to my def 16 and arm 20, he only did 9 wounds to me, and I then proceeded to put AX TO FACE! on my first hit I dropped him to 1 life, and then, game over, ASSASSINATION! All in all, great times and great games, learned a lot, and still much more to learn. I will work on getting some pics up of the finished Cryx, and of my new Khador force, and will try and remember to take pics of games.

I am HOOKED on this game! Love it!

Scheduling change...

Well, it appears that my LGS had changed their gaming schedule on me, so my first game of Warmachine is delayed, which isn't all bad. It gives me some more time to finish my brothers Cryx force before i take it for a test spin. In the mean time I have also been working on my new Faction, KHADOR! I have picked up some Widowmakers and a Heavy Warjack kit from the LGS, and I have the Battlebox on order. I plan on painting them up in a snow camo scheme, and putting them on some snow bases, so if anyone has some ideas, or pics for reference, it would be much appreciated. Right now I am pouring through my Khador book, and an old WWII book that my dad gave me, looking for color schemes and ideas. Sorry no pics right now, to busy to snap some pics. Well, back to work I go.

WOW! Sorry for being off for so long...

Life gets in the way some times, but back to the hobby I am. Just because I have been off line for awhile doesn't mean that I haven't been working on the Cryx army. I have finished the Slayer, and am currently working on the last Deathripper and the Defiler. My goal is still set at having them ready for this Saturday, as that will be my first official game (did a little play-testing/learning with my Bro). Here is the big change though, I have convinced my brother to get in the game, which is awesome, the bad news is he only wants to play Cryx! Well, in all my generosity and OCD, I have decided to give him an awesome Birthday gift! He will recieve my Cryx Battle-box fully painted with the Faction deck, pDenny token set, templates, and his own copy of the MK.II Rulebook all wrapped up in his very own Sabol Mini Case! Hope he doesn't read my blog before March, lol.

I guess I need to choose another Faction, anyone have any ideas?

Now for some pics of my Bro's Cryx WIP.

AAARRRGGGHHH!!!

Frustrated, because my internet is down and will be down for atleast another week. Thank God for my Blackberry I suppose. Well, I won't be making any updates for a little while, but I am currently half way done with the Slayer, and working on finishing my part 2 of my painting post. More to come as soon as I am back up and running.

Painting Cryx, Support By Fire's Style (part 1)

Alright, got a comment from Dean at The Old West Chronicle asking what techniques and what kind of paints I use to paint my Cryx. Well, Dean, here is part 1 of at least a 2 part post.

First, I will start off with a list of paint colors and what brand of paint they are from.

VGC= Vallejo Game Color
VMC= Vallejo Model Color
GWF= Games Workshop Foundation
GWW= Games Workshop Wash
GWP= Games Workshop Paint

GWP, Chaos Black
VGC, Black
VGC, Sombre Grey
VGC, Ghost Grey
VMC, Gunmetal Grey
GWP, Chainmail
GWP, Mithril Silver
GWP, Brazen Brass
GWP, Shining Gold
GWP, Rotting Flesh
GWP, Elf Flesh
GWF, Dheneb Stone
GWP, Bleached Bone
GWP, Skull White
GWP, Blood Red
GWP, Blazing Orange
GWP, Fiery Orange
VGC, Sun Yellow
GWP, Scorched Brown
GWP, Bestial Brown
GWP, Graveyard Earth
GWP, Bubonic Brown
GWW, Badab Black
GWW, Gryphonne Sepis

As you can see, I still have mostly GW paints, as I have just transitioned from 40K to Warmachine, I do not have any P3 paints yet. I am really liking the Vallejo paints as well, love the bottle they come in, and really like the consistency of the paint(practically already mixed with water so you can use it from the bottle with out watering it down). I will try out some P3 paints, but I am going to be replacing old paints with Vallejo for the most part, unless I need to make an exact match.
Some may notice, That I use 2 different Black paints, here is why. The Chaos Black from GW is a matte finish paint, and works great for painting black, VGC Black has a semi-gloss finish and is excellent for mixing with my grays for shading. I kind of stumbled on this actually, I had bought the VGC Black, thinking it would be matte, but I was thinking of the VMC that are the matte paints, so I had a happy accident. I will be replacing my dwindling supply of GW Chaos Black with a matte VMC Black soon though(love those dropper bottles).

Well,in part 2 we will look at what paints are used on which area of the model, and what mixes are used for highlighting. Keep an eye out for part 2 soon.

Got my Battlebox today!

Let the construction begin! Well, I am very excited to have my Cryx Battlebox and some other goodies come in the mail today, and of course I got to work on them at the first available moment. First off, let me say that I really like these mini's! Easy to build, easily magnetized(which my Slayer is fully magnetized now), and very well detailed. My only complaint, is very pronounced mold lines.If you have built a few kits from any manufacturer, then it shouldn't be a problem to remove, just time consuming. Now with that as my only complaint, all I can say is WOW!!! After flipping through the MKII rulebook and the Cryx Faction Deck, and the Cryx Faction Book at my LGS, I can say that I can't wait to get painting and then get them on the gaming table.
As it turns out, the two better hobby stores in my area(Books, Comics, and Things), each have a Press-Ganger that runs games on the first Saturday of each month. Looks like I made an excellent choice in switching up to Privateer Press games. More to come this weekend after I get some more time to bust out some new mini's and read the rulebook fully, but for now here are some early WIP pics.

Well I pulled the trigger.....

And bought the Warmachine MKII rulebook, Cryx Faction Deck, and the Cryx Battle Box! Can't wait till they arrive, so I can get to work on them. My LGS has gaming for Warmachine one Saturday a month too, so I am going to see if I can be ready for the first Saturday in February.

I am still thinking of how to divide up my remaining Marines to sell on ebay, most likely unit by unit, watch for the post on that soon.

Black Templars Sold...

Well, the Black Templars are sold, shipping out soon. Still have the Crimson Fists to sell, and I will be putting them back on ebay soon, guess I will break up the group and sell them in smaller batches. Hopefully I get more bites that way.
I will be finishing up the painting on my Skulltaker and squad of Bloodletters and selling them too, so if interested drop me a line before I put them on ebay.

WARMACHINE here I come!!! I have decided to go away from 40K and try something new, maybe GW will get their stuff together some time and I will come back to it, but as for now, they lost a customer. I like the games and the story line of 40K and Fantasy, just don't like spending hundreds of hundreds of dollars to get my gaming and modeling fix. If they come out with a Kill Team game I will be all over it, but I doubt it as that would encourage people to buy less "plastic crack", and they can't have that now can they. Well, I don't want to turn this into a rant or anything, just going with a wallet friendly, skirmish based game for now. Hit me up if interested in my Marines or Demons, and I will put up links to my ebay listings as soon as I get them listed.

Contemplating Warmachine????

Been looking a lot at WARMACHINE from Privateer Press lately, thinking about dropping 40K all together and going full on into a new game system. Like the look of the models, the price is better, the amount of models required speeds up painting time and gets you on the table sooner, the books are far superior with more content and totally full color, i love the cards that are used for quick reference, the range of models and options is huge, and now they are releasing more and more plastic kits for more options with less price and greater ease of building. Come to think of it, GW is losing out to Privateer Press in almost all categories. I will have to see if my ebay sales take, and then decide if getting out of 40K is for me, but as it is looking, I will at the very least give WARMACHINE a try. I can pick up a couple of Battlebox sets on the cheap and download the starter rules for free.

Give me some opinions on switching over, pros and cons.

Mech Black Templars, 1500 pts.

Here is the list I have decided on for 1500 points, and eventually scaling up to 1750- 1850 points. Let me know what you think, or any tips for playing the list or for the construction and painting of my Declates Crusade Force, need all the help I can get.

Predator w/ Autocannon and lascannon sponsons, EA, Smoke – 133

Total: 1496 pts.

Still need to purchase:
Bits for Marshal
1 Rhino
2 Predators
and possibly a new Ven Dread to replace my old Dread

Work in progress

Got my mini's organized and started doing some upgrades on my Crimson Fists Rhino, notably the Tac Arrow on top and the white shield on the front were the Maltese Cross will go, and some chiped paint effect, and some more weathering to come after decals are applied. I also worked up my list, and realized, i need money! Just to get to 1500 points I will need a Rhino, 2 Predators, some bits to make my Marshal, and would like to get the new Ven Dread in plastic, but I can use my current CF Dread for now. Looks like I need to come up with around $175.00 to complete. I think I am going to finish my Skulltaker and Bloodletters, and ebay them along with some old High elves that I have, might get 100-150 bucks for it all, just have to see what I got that I need to get rid of and get some serious painting going on too. Anyways here is a pic of my work this morning, not much, but gotta start somewhere.

Working on a few 1/72 scale WWI planes for Canvas Eagles too. Time to get back at it, and I will post up the new list later as well.
